Vancouver Underground Gas & Oil Tank Removal

Removal of residential and commercial underground storage tanks.

The City of Vancouver Fire By-Law No. 8191 (sec 4.10.3) and the City of Vancouver Sewer and Watercourse By-Law No. 8093 (sec. 5.3) both require that tanks which will not be reused or have been out of service for two years shall be removed.

Stormworks takes care of all the details for your underground storage tank (UST) removal.

  • arrange the necessary permits
  • pumping and disposal of contaminated waste
  • cleaning and physical removal of the tank
  • municipal/city inspections (where required)
  • backfill of the excavation (environmentally approved fill)
  • cleanup of debris
  • provide a tank removal certificate

Current service areas for residential oil tank removal and commercial oil and gas tank removal:

Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, New Westminster, North and West Vancouver, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody.

In the unfortunate event that your tank has leaked and a contaminated soil cleanup is required, we will arrange:

Contaminated Site Cleanup

The BC Ministry of the Environment requires that contaminated sites be identified and remediated. Many municipalities have additional requirements that must be satisfied prior to a property transfer or redevelopment. As well, an increasing number of mortgage lenders and insurance companies are insisting on contaminated site clearance certificates prior to lending money or insuring property.

In order to achieve this, the suspected contaminated soil where the tank was ‘nested’ must be excavated and removed to a permitted soil remediation facility.

When the contaminated soil has been removed, the remaining soil in the excavation must be tested by a qualified environmental engineer to determine, by analytical means, that the soil is below the limits determined by the Ministry of the Environment.

After the engineering report confirms that the site is “clean” a Notice of Independent Soil Remediation must be filed with the Province of British Columbia Ministry of the Environment.

Our clients include:

  • Construction and development companies
  • Government Agencies
  • Property Management Companies
  • Real Estate Companies
  • Private Residential and Commercial Property Owners.
  • School Boards

Often the requirement for site remediation is only recognized when your project is underway. We understand budget constraints and recognize the importance of timely and cost efficient remediation measures.
