Here at Stormworks clients will ask us “Do people still use oil tanks?” ” Isn’t everyone on gas?”
For the most part that statement is accurate for the Lower Mainland. Most residential and commercial buildings are heated with gas.
A few people still use oil but the numbers are very small.
The consumption of oil increases in small rural areas in BC. Propane plays a big role here as well. Vancouver Island only received natural gas in the last 20 years. Many homes in Victoria have active oil tanks heating homes and commercial buildings.
While electricity and natural gas dominate the provinces energy production – oil tanks both above and below ground still dot the landscape.
So if you are buying a summer home or rural property have a good inspection for tanks on the property.
